10. The Women’s Cricket World Cup Precedes the Men’s

You may be surprised to learn that the first Cricket World Cup was hosted by women. Two years before the men’s competition, in 1973, England hosted the first Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The Men’s Cricket World Cup was first hosted in England in 1975, thanks to the victory of England in the inaugural competition.

The WACA (Western Australian Cricket Association) Stadium in Perth is famous for its incredibly fast pitch. The only cricket player to have played Test matches for both India and England is Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi. In the 1932–1933 Bodyline series against Australia, he made his debut for England and scored a century. Later on, while representing India, he took part in 46 Test matches and three for England.

India is the only country to have won World Cups in three different formats: 60-over, 50-over, and 20-over. India claimed its first World Cup in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s captaincy in the 60-over format. Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s guidance, the nation went on to win the 2011 50-over World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup.

1. Sachin Tendulkar’s Third Umpire Milestone

The first player to be ruled out by a third umpire was Sachin Tendulkar in 1992, while India was touring South Africa.  This landmark decision occurred in the first Test match when Tendulkar was adjudged run-out by TV Umpire Karl Liebenberg, with Jonty Rhodes executing the run-out.
