T20 World Cup: India’s Performance, Key Stats, and Records

Date:

With cricket fans eagerly anticipating the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to commence on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies, the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, is gearing up to end a decade-long drought of ICC trophies.

India’s journey in the T20 World Cup began with a remarkable triumph in 2007 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. They secured their inaugural title by defeating Pakistan by a narrow margin of five runs in a memorable final in Johannesburg.

However, subsequent tournaments in 2009, 2010, and 2012 witnessed India exiting early, failing to replicate their initial success.

The team experienced a resurgence in the 2014 T20 World Cup, reaching the finals under Dhoni’s leadership before succumbing to Sri Lanka. In 2016, despite strong performances and hosting the tournament, the West Indies halted India in the semi-finals.

Recent editions have posed challenges as well. In the 2021 World Cup, India was eliminated in the Super 12 stage, and a similar fate befell them in the 2022 tournament in Australia, where they lost to England in the semi-finals.
