5. Lack of Passion and Professionalism

Javed Miandad together with other former players view with dissatisfaction the uninspiring attitude and unprofessional habits of the present Pakistani cricket team members. According to Miandad players displayed noticeable pre-match tension before games kicked off thus affecting their playing standards.

Miandad stated that athletes with pride manage to deliver their best during crucial moments just like Virat Kohli while making his point. Former players consider professional commitment and drive one of the most serious issues within the team.

4. Ineffective Team Selection

The team selection procedure receives heavy criticism at present. Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Amir together with other former cricket players have voiced doubts about the selection process due to their belief that favoritism exists.

During his appearance on GMS News Amir expressed his view that the team should select its players from domestic competitions instead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The process of team selection faces criticism because previous players feel the system lacks transparency which prevents the application of most talented players.

3. Outdated Approach to the Game

During a media conference, Shahid Afridi noted Pakistan cricket displays an outdated approach that would have matched the 1980s and 1990s mentality in 2025. He stated that Pakistan should adopt a more hostile strategy in matches against top-ranking teams. The ICC tournaments have seen continuous failure since Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy due to their unmodernized approach.

2. Poor Domestic Cricket Infrastructure

Domestic cricket matches and the playing conditions are criticized by retired cricketers including Wasim Akram and Rashid Latif because of their inadequate standards. Such factors create obstacles for the creation of high-quality cricketers which results in below-par international results.

Akram demanded significant changes in the national development structure to elevate the quality of local cricket players. Experts consider an ill-developed domestic system to be the main obstacle preventing Pakistan’s national team from achieving success.

1. Administrative Instability

Management instability at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stands as a major problem affecting the organization. The team has suffered from instability and strategic changes because of constant changes in leadership positions and political interference in appointments.

Cricket administration needs to base its appointees on qualifications because this will create stable leadership structures according to Rashid Latif. The team struggles to establish unity and achieve stable performance at the international level because of this unstable situation.
