Graham Gooch, an iconic figure in English cricket, had a career spanning two decades. He faced some of the most formidable bowlers, especially from the West Indies, and still managed to shine. From 1975 to 1995, Gooch played 118 Test matches, scoring 8,900 runs at an average of 42.58, including 20 centuries and 46 fifties. In ODIs, he amassed 4,290 runs in 125 matches, averaging 36.98, with eight centuries and 23 fifties.

9. Wally Hammond

Walter Hammond established himself as a premier run-scorer during his career from 1927 to 1947. In 85 Test matches, he scored 7,249 runs at an average of 58.45, with 22 centuries and 24 fifties. Hammond also demonstrated his versatility with 83 wickets and 110 catches.

8. Joe Root

Joe Root, a modern-day cricketing maestro, has captivated fans with his elegant strokeplay and consistent run-scoring. Root has accumulated over 11,818 runs in 142 Tests at an average of around 49.65, including 31 centuries and 62 half-centuries.
